BERIKI MECRA / CHANNEL
YONDER
(Genis Aci Photography Magazine 2002-2007)
What
is Channel Yonder?
Begun in 2002, Channel Yonder is a platform for
(mainly Turkish) contemporary artists who work (also) with photographs.
Photography used within the context of contemporary arts is not interested in
the esthetic concerns that classical photography imposes since it puts more
emphasis on conceptual contents. Thus, it transforms the photography itself.
What I am trying to do with Beriki Mecra (Channel Yonder), is to introduce
artists who use photography as a medium of expression without considering
themselves photographers, to the readers of Genis Aci . In a sense, emphasizing
that contemporary art is not the “Other” but the “Yonder”; at the same time
keeping in mind to what extent photography can be used.
